Where We Wanted To Go - 2015
With Common Core and Technology Integration, the focus for Librarian Support/Library Resources tends to be heavy on the technology side. The thought process is to move outside technology incorporation and into literacy activities. Here are some ideas that we are pursuing for the very near future.
Technology Guide - one of the things that often gets asked by the librarian is what do we need to cover, how to cover it or when to cover it. This document is in DRAFT form and may be changed or tweaked throughout the year.
Literacy Luncheons - a genre theme is covered each month to cover key literary elements and how to incorporate them into the classroom. We would pull books from the library to know what is useful for mentor texts that cover the key elements and genres being studied through the Common Core. Teachers would have a relaxed luncheon where books would be highlighted and discussed. This would occur 1-2 times per month.
Book talks - a video once a week will be done by the librarian for each grade level to encourage a different books in the library.
Book Clubs: "Chat N Chew Meets Technology" - kids meet to talk about books and in return create a book talk video via a variety of technology tools. In Fall, 4th and 5th graders would read and learn about how to create book videos. In January, 4th and 5th graders would then teach 2nd and 3rd graders how to create book videos and talks. This would be a fun extra-curricular activity that would take place during their noon recess.
Teacher Meets Chat N Chew Club: Teachers book talk their favorite books just like the students. They would learn how to incorporate video with QR codes. We would then take the QR codes to be put up around the library showcasing genre studies, favorite teacher books, and more. Thought is to have this 1-2 times a month.
